Workshop26 in Kimba has become an Eyre Peninsula must-do, on the bucket-list of big lappers, road trippers and van-lifers all over the country.
But you do not have to travel a million miles to enjoy Workshop26 – located just 180 kilometres north of Port Lincoln, plenty of EP residents love to jump in the car and make the day trip to Kimba for a visit to this amazing place, combined with lunch at Eileen’s Café or a counter meal at the town’s local country pub.
When times were looking dry in the farming community, five local women put their hands in their pockets and bought the old John Deere dealership in the town’s main street.
Together, and with the help of many local community members, they scraped decades of grease from the floors, filled the old workshop with shipping containers, painted it and gave it a new life.
Four years on, Workshop26 is home to nine female-founded small businesses, operating mostly out of the repurposed shipping containers that now fill the space.
Featuring barista coffee, vintage furniture, a silversmith, a soap manufacturer, a candle maker, garden and homewares, raw foods and more, Workshop26 is well worth a drive.
