Children, adults and families got to soak up the sunshine on Sunday to take part in the SA Water Sand Sculpture Competition as part of the Tunarama Festival.
People flocked to the Port Lincoln Foreshore to take part in the competition which involved creating a sand sculpture in the two hour timeframe.
Each of the entrants was judged according to their category, with Rita able to take out the open category for her palm tree structure, while the Castle Crafters were honoured for their detailed boat and hippo structures with the prize for the kids up to 12-years-old and four participant category. The Crabbies took out the family category with their crab structure and 67 winners claimed the top prize in the kids under 12 up to two participants category, with detailed sea water creature creations.
SA Water’s manager of brand and community connection Kellie McDonald was the competition organiser, she said it was great to see such outstanding sculptures in the competition.
“It was incredible to see the structures that people put together and it made judging very hard,” she said.
“I loved seeing the families getting involved too and thinking about the ocean.
“I think everyone got a lot out of the competition.”
Ms McDonald said her and the rest of the SA Water team loved being involved in the Tunarama Festival.
“We felt really welcomed by the community and we really enjoyed celebrating the festival which was an outstanding success for the town of Port Lincoln,” she said.
“Every part of Tunarama including the Sand Sculpture Competition looked to be really well supported.
“We’re looking forward to holding the SA Water Sand Sculpture Competition again in 2027 too, this year was a blast.”
