Guest speaker Jay Dudley – Elliston school teacher and St. John’s Ambulance volunteer and first aid teacher – introduced Charlton Women in Agriculture and Business members to operating an automated external defibrillator (AED) at the October Meeting.
When one sees a person collapsed and not breathing, dial 000. If there are any bystanders, nominate a person to dial, while you quickly check for danger, and operate the AED.
Remove upper clothing and commence CPR – 32 chest pumps and two puffs to mouth, although the puffs may be omitted.
After two minutes another person continues the compression, and alternates as necessary.
If a person is wet (from pool or sea), dry their chest or breasts prior to attaching defibrillator pads.
Follow instructions from the voice on AED. It will tell you what to do, and when.
There are many AEDs in the community and everyone needs to be vigilant as to their location.
Charlton WAB was very thankful for this valuable teaching and being able to practice the same on models Jay brought in.
A vote of thanks and small gift was given to Jay in appreciation.
