Camera club looks back on 2024 achievements

Port Lincoln Camera Club held its annual general meeting and awards night at the Senior Citizens Hall on Monday, March 24.

Club president Fran Solly outlined the activities of the club in 2024, thanking committee members for their individual contributions to the running of the club’s activities despite having depleted numbers.

The club had a very successful stay at Mt Ive Station in September, touring the surrounding stations and Lake Gairdner.

Members had the opportunity to photograph various landscapes, rocky with the organ pipes, and the embankment, vast open spaces, salt at Lake Gairdner ruins and native wildlife, especially the abundant birdlife.

The club has 27 energetic members who have had the opportunity to expand their photographic expertise with various exercises throughout the year.

The club had success in the annual Eyre Peninsula Camera Club Association (EPCCA) last year in Whyalla, with many members having a win.

This year EPCCA was in Streaky Bay at the end of March.

Port Lincoln entries will be on display at the local show in August.

Life member Judy Glendenning presented the awards for club most consistent – won by Ros Licina – most improved to Trish LeBrun, the Gordon Fowler Bird Prize went to Fran for Snow Petrel, club champion was awarded to Fran, and image of the year to Bazz Hockaday with his photo titled ‘Bondi Bodies’.

Image of the year was judged by local photographer Robert Lang, who gave an impressive critique of Bazz’s photo.

The 2024 committee members were all returned to the same offices for 2025, with the addition of two more committee members.

Committee meetings will now start an hour earlier than the general meeting on the same night to reduce meeting dates in our busy lives.

The club meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7pm in the Senior Citizens Hall.

Members enter the monthly competition as they wish, with a different set subject each month.

The meetings include a subject/technical/editing tutorial each month.

Those interested in photography can come along and check out what the club does.
