Consistent whiting around

Here is what has been biting and where across the region.

West Coast

Mixed reports have come in from the Dog Fence and Yalata Beach.

A few good fish were landed, around the 50lb mark, along with a few smaller fish under a metre.

The fishing has been hard, but those that are putting the hours in are being rewarded.

Around Streaky Bay the whiting fishing has slowed down in the last week.

Some good squid can be caught around the jetty and nearby by reefs along the coast.

We have not heard more reports of tuna out from Sceale Bay, but they are starting to turn up around Coffin Bay so they should be around.

Venus Bay is still fishing well for whiting – the fish are a lot smaller compared to winter, but they still provide a decent feed and are plenty of fun to catch.

The jetty has been good for snook and salmon in the evenings and the odd garfish and tommies throughout the day.

Coffin Bay

Not many reports have come in from the bay this week, but there should be nice whiting around.

The Brothers and around Dutton Heads would be worth a crack as they were fishing quite well a few weeks ago.

Gummy sharks are still around, with some good numbers being caught in the last few weeks – fresh squid baits have been the most effective.

Out from Farm Beach, the whiting fishing is still good with plenty of people bagging out without having to go far.

Few offshore reports have come in, but tuna have been spotted inside Sir Isaacs, as well as offshore – the ones inside Sir Isaacs are very hard to tempt.

Small metals and divers would be your best bet if they show any interest at all.

The offshore lumps and reefs should start firing for kingfish and samsons once the weather warms up.

Nannygai, blue morwong and sharks are also in good numbers on the reefs and lumps off Sir Isaacs and reef head.

Port Lincoln

All the action this week has been land-based.

Kingfish, whiting, tommies, garfish and salmon have all been getting caught off the jetty and wharf.

Rat kingfish continue to be caught up the jetty most mornings – a lot of these fish are undersized, so make sure to measure them if you are going to keep one.

Some nice whiting have been caught off the wharf and main jetty in the afternoons.

Prawns and squid have been the bait of choice.

Garfish, tommies, and odd salmon have also been landed by those fishing with pencil floats with gents and cockles.

Squid are still a little scarce – a few have been landed on the jetties in the morning but are quite small.

North Shields and Boston Island have not been too bad for squid, with a few reports of guys getting 10 or 15 in a session.

Whiting has been slow in the bay, with the best reports coming from down the Passage and around Thistle Island.

Not many offshore reports have come in, but tuna, kingfish and samson fish should all be available on the offshore reefs and lumps spreading from Williams Island to the Cabbage Patch.

Nannygai, blue morwong and sharks should also be in good numbers on the reefs and lumps down the Passage and out wider.

Tumby Bay

In the bay, whiting have been consistent around the sand hills and Red Cliffs.

Squid are in good numbers around the main reef and the island.

Ski Beach has been good for the odd whiting and some nice garfish, while Second Creek still has good reports of salmon and garfish.

Out at the Group the whiting fishing is still great, with plenty of boaties getting their bag limit.

Squid are around but not in huge numbers.

The deeper water and reefs seem to be the most productive.

Garfish, tommies, red mullet and sweep were all caught on the whiting drops.
