Learn new ways to look after your mental wellbeing with Mentally Fit EP’s Sue Berry and Lain Montgomerie as they present ‘Take Charge of Your Life’.
The course was developed by William Glasser International and teaches the foundations of filling your base needs with choice theory, including survival, love and belonging, freedom, fun and power.
The course will be delivered in two segments – the first on Wednesday, August 27 and the other on Wednesday, September 3, at the Port Lincoln Library from 9am to 12.30pm.
Ms Berry is an experienced, qualified counselor and a senior faculty member of Glasser Australia, which teaches choice theory.
“I love delivering this because I believe it really gives people a new way of approaching and looking after their mental health,” she said.
“Catching little issues before they become bigger issues – it’s an approach that is not widely known.
“I’m at the stage where I want to give back to my community and this is my way of doing that.”
Ms Berry encouraged people to come along and learn choice theory at this free event, saying it was most effective for people aged 15 and above.
“I would encourage anybody who is interested in ways of looking after their mental health and wellbeing (to attend the event),” she said.
“They may come to learn ways that they can support the people who they care about, to look after their mental health and just be more effective in supporting them.
“It’s a course that’s very interactive, with a lot of discussion and activities.”
Ms Montgomerie said participants would not need to share their personal experiences with mental illness.
All materials will be provided, with tea, coffee and nibbles available.
“Mentally Fit EP’s mission is empowering people to take charge of their lives and building mentally fit, connected communities,” Ms Montgomerie said.
“What I love about this is it does empower people, it reminds people of what they are in charge of and puts the ball back in their court.
“A byproduct of the course is not only working on your mental fitness but also meeting other people, so it really does help create connected communities and supports our mission.”
