Dyer marks monster mulloway

Here is what was biting and where across the region.

West Coast

Mulloway are still getting caught at the Dog Fence and further west, along with plenty of gummy sharks and the odd salmon as by-catch. Streaky Bay and Venus Bay are still producing plenty of whiting along with some nice garfish, tommies, salmon and snook.

Tuna around five to eight kilograms have been reported out from Sceale Bay and Elliston, along with a few small kingfish.

Nannygai, blue morwong and sharks are all to be had on the lumps and reefs in the same area. There are still some good schools of salmon around Locks Well and Sheringa.

Metal lures have been working well in the 60g range.

Coffin Bay

In the bay this week whiting reports are still good, but there are plenty of small ones around.

The deeper water in the bay seems to be more consistent for the bigger fish.

Salmon trout, tommies and garfish have all been caught in the boat and land-based.

The Sandhills and Black Spring has had good reports for whiting and garfish, with the odd flathead mixed in.

Squid are still around, with the Brothers and the Ledge being quite consistent – when the tide is slack seems to be the best time to chase them.

There have been good reports of gummy sharks being caught throughout the day and into the night.

Anchoring on the deep holes and ledges in the bay using fresh fish fillet or squid has been the best method.

Farm Beach is still consistent for whiting. Boats have had to move around more the past week but are still managing their bag limit.

We finally had good weather for boaties to venture out offshore – the offshore lumps and reefs off Sir Isaacs and Reef Head produced good nannygai and a few morwong.

Tuna have been seen around Krause, but not of any size or quantity – it should not be too long before they start showing up in some numbers.

Port Lincoln

In the bay, whiting have been hit and miss – the best reports have come from around Surfleet Cove and the Monument.

Squid are around but still hard to find in any numbers or size.

The jetty and wharf have both had land-based reports of rat kingfish, whiting, tommies and squid.

Snapper Rocks, Snooks Landing and Billy Lights Point have all been producing a few squid in the afternoon and the odd whiting and garfish for those targeting them.

Down the Passage, Thistle Island and Taylors Landing have been producing some nice whiting and squid – the best reports have come from Thistle, where the fish were a bit bigger.

Memory Cove has a few squid, plenty of tommies and the odd whiting.

Offshore, the Cabbage Patch and lumps around Williams have samson fish, kingfish, and nannygai all on offer when the weather allows.

No reports of school tuna from out there have come in and it seems like the big ones have moved on.

Kingfish, samson fish and nannygai were all caught over the weekend.

In the national park there have been good schools of salmon along Wisemans Beach and further along the coast.

Throwing 60g metal slugs like the nomad ridgebacks have been very effective, otherwise fresh squid or pilchards has been working well.

Tumby Bay

Out at the Group the fishing has been good with reports of whiting, tommies, squid, snook and garfish all caught.

Reevesby Island had reports of whiting and garfish in shallow water and Spilsby Island was good for whiting and snook in the deeper water.

Around Tumby Bay, Ski Beach has been a go-to for the odd yellowfin whiting and King George off the beach and Second Creek had reports of salmon and garfish caught on the incoming tide.

Port Neill

In the bay, whiting and squid have been consistent for boat fishers.

A few snook and the odd salmon were caught while fishing for whiting.

Off the jetty, squid have been caught in the afternoons and the odd whiting and garfish on high tide.
