Members of the Port Lincoln Combined Probus Club recently visited the city’s Riding for the Disabled Club.

It was an eye-opener for the 22 members that went to visit the up-to-date fire safe facility.

The comfort and wellbeing of the horses was excellent, with the varying paddocking and shelters.

Horses, like humans, have their own moods and differences and they are all catered for to suit their own needs, wellbeing and health.

The complex was celebrating 20 years since formation and has relied fully on volunteers, sponsors and its own fundraising efforts to be able to support the horses and their handicapped riders.

There is no contribution at all from the state or federal government.

Club president Liz Trigg gave a wonderful presentation to the members and they also went on a tour of the grounds.

The club is very proud of its facility, with riders from a young age to more than 30.

Its own meeting and presentation complex was fully donated and erected by the Makybe Diva Foundation, which the group found amazing.

Rotary and other businesses in Port Lincoln have assisted with donations and this has been ongoing.

Riding for the Disabled had horses from Shetland ponies up to retired racehorses.

This was a spectacular place to see and perhaps a good option for residents to volunteer at.

The morning was concluded with a wonderful morning tea.
